Discussion: How can parliamentarians promote transparency and accountability #IPCI2024

According to Hon.(Engr) Promise Nwadigos from Nigeria & President International Youth Parliament, one of the best ways to promote transparency and accountability is to communicate openly and frequently with your constituent, community leaders, and stakeholders. Share your parliamentry vision, mission, values, and objectives, and explain how they align with the constituency project implementation.

On the benefits of transparency and accountability in building trust The UNFPA Technical Adviser Fredrick Okwayo said that it can be brought through various tools, including the Citizen’s Charters, Right to Information, e-Governance, Citizen Report Cards and Transparency Accountability; Giving more insight on what transparency and accountability in the public sector should be, Hon. Abduoulie Njai MP From Gambia, in his speech, said transparency includes responding to requests for information from the constituent. It is about providing people with the information they need to engage in the decisions that affect them. In that way, the UNFPA Programme Management and Oversight specialist Dakar Senegal- Gilena Andrade concluded in her remarks that transparency is an ongoing dialogue between a public entity and its stakeholders about the provision of information.

Also, Hon.Catherine Wedd MP from New Zealand advised parliamentarians on the urgent need for resource mobilisation and creating an enabling environment for SRHR-related issues within our community as leaders for others to emulate. The President of European Parliament Forum For Sexual & Reproductive Health Rights Patra Bayr, further emphasis the vital task awaiting parliamentarians is preventing corruption and in ensuring the government is accountable to the citizens they represent at all times.
